Local officials are implementing a full-scale effort to garner community support for Selfridge Air National Guard Base to secure a fleet of the next-generation fighter jet. County Executive Mark Hackel and said Brig. Gen. John D. Slocum, commander of the 127th Wing at SANG, conducted a news conference Tuesday to announce a campaign to tout the benefits of attracting a squadron of the F-35 Lightening II, a fifth-generation fighter, to the Harrison Township Base.
