After working with the Michigan Defense Center, members of Michigan’s congressional delegation wrote to Secretary of the Air Force, Barbara M. Barrett. On December 11, 2020, a letter was sent urging her to select Selfridge Air National Guard Base (ANGB) as the preferred location for the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) F-35 training mission and the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s F-16 training operations.  In all categories on the strategic basing scorecard, Selfridge ANGB outscores the other sites.

This letter discussed the core Michigan advantages like Airfield, Airspace and Training Ranges, National All-Domain Warfighting Center (NADWC), Fight Operations Experience, Environmental Analysis, Optimal Weather, Community Support, and Freedom from Constraints.  To conclude the letter, an appendix was included to add the full Michigan Advantage document.
