The Michigan Defense Center, Macomb County, WIN, the Macomb/St. Clair Workforce Development Board and the Advance Michigan Defense Collaborative have partnered to bring $6.9 million in grants to Michigan projects.

Advance Michigan Defense Collaborative

CROPPED AMDC Logo 11.23.2015 copy2Grant Purpose: To provide immediate and sustained assistance to firms and workers in a 13-county region in Southeast Michigan affected by reduced Department of Defense procurement. The coalition coordinates assistance to organizations that promote research, industrial development, and talent development relevant to the defense industry.

The Advance Michigan Defense Collaborative will support resiliency and capacity in:

  • Autonomous transportation and connected mobility (particularly the electronics, sensors, and componentry sector)
  • Lightweight materials manufacturing sector
  • Information technology with a focus on increasing security of automated transportation systems and products

Geographic areas covered: The Advance Michigan area includes the urban centers of Detroit, Flint and Lansing and the counties of Clinton, Eaton, Genesee, Ingham, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Shiawassee, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne.

Projects proposed for funding through the OEA grant include:

  • Social Network Analysis and Network Development for Defense-Relevant Partners
  • Defense Industry Economic Impact Analysis
  • Defense-related skills gap analysis
  • Asset Mapping of Regional Defense-Relevant Programs, Initiatives, and Infrastructure
  • Michigan Automated Systems Collaborative (MASC)
  • Planning and Analysis to Align and Leverage Regional Connected/Automated Transportation Systems Assets and Initiatives
  • Supply Chain Mapping and Demonstration Projects to Support Commercialization of Defense Technologies
  • iBridge Network Pilot Microsite for Michigan Defense Innovation Ecosystem and technology transfer plan
  • Augment and enhance the State of Michigan Bid Targeting System (BTS)
  • Transition Center for Defense-Dedicated Contractors
  • IT Employer Engagement – Opportunity Detroit Tech
  • Connected Life Collaborative – Internet of Things
  • Cyber ranges and secure sandboxes
  • Regional Cybersecurity Training Center (RCTC)
  • Develop grant-related infrastructure, including website, data purchases, and a forum for partner convening
